Welcome to my website!
Welcome to my website! My name is George Ates and I have been a musician and songwriter all my life. I am supported by my Lord Jesus Christ, my beautiful wife, Bernadette, my children, Lyrica, Honey, Gabriel, and Earl and my sister, Deborah, who has supported me thru the toughest of times.
On the music page you will find original songs that I have written over the years. This collection is the product of Dino Zimmerman, my producer, and was recorded at Dino's Demos in Nashville, TN. The vocalists, as noted, are J.D. Coe, Brian Zimmerman, John Crowder and Dino Zimmerman. Except for a few instruments, harmonica and fiddle, all tracks, including bass, drums, and guitars are done by Dino, one of the finest musicians and producers in Nashville.
I have just finished this new cd named 'From A to Z' (Ates to Zimmerman) produced by Dino Zimmerman in Nashville, TN. This collection of original tunes has special meaning to me. In particular are songs such as Country Nights, Big Black - Big Cat, Head Over Heels, and Pearl of the Orient...where the melody and words, with the multi-talents of Dino Zimmerman, come together in such an awesome way so as to pull hard on every emotion of your heart and soul.
Singer John Crowder, whose beautifully strained voice is mindful of Joe Cocker, gets every ounce of feeling out of the song Now and Then.
Heartache ByPass, like all the others sung by Brian Zimmerman, strikes home with such a familiar message in word and music...wish heartache was so easy to fix with a simple operation! In all his feeling, Brian helps you understand that at times it's hard to live in a place as big as the heart.
J.D. Coe's silky, country voice is a perfect match for every song. His ability to become 'one' with the song is beyond compare on Country Nights, Head Over Heels and You're the Most Beautiful. Whatever credit he gets will never be enough.
Thanks to all of you for your hard work.

I was born in Jackson, Mississippi
...and lived most of my life in Terry, MS. I attended Raymond High School where I played my first original tunes on stage in the 7th grade. My first group was the Challengers in the 9th grade. I was 14 yrs old in 1964 and that's when I started playing and making my own money. By this time there was no turning back. I knew what I wanted to do.
In 1976, I did my first album (casette tapes were just coming out) at Malaco Studios in Jackson, with the Malaco Rhythm Section which included Dino Zimmerman, my current producer. I've had my own ups and downs like everyone, and, surviving these years by the Grace of God, I now live with my wife, Bernadette near San Francisco.
